Progress-3

It is a long time I haven’t updated my progress.

On the one hand,I am a little frustrated because I have to spend most of time doing my ESL assignment and reading materials because my poor English:( I really want to improve my efficiency on it as fast as possible and I will have enough time to paint my illustration on weekends!!

One the other hand,I spend a lot time modifying the color, composition and textures.

I found these envelopes in studio..they are perfect to be used as skin textures.I will buy this kind of tools to create more!

When I continue to paint other panels in page 2.I found it is a problem to balance the color and style. But I always tried different methods to deal with that!In this process,I got many surprises from”failure” .Textures can be created another new kind of texture by PS…I enjoy it very much!

Progress-2

R0003131-2R0003216

I was lucky as the first group to critique in the first week:P and I was really appreciated Professors’ and classmates’  helpful suggestions! I knew the most important modifies on my project now is adding more details and visual narrative on context in my story. And I planed to paint individual pictures on every page of this story book before, but now I decide to change this formation into combined ones on every page, because I think I need to strengthen the transition on plots like a movie or comic ,so maybe it is the most suitable ways to express the girl’s adventure and dream. And on the other hand,it  can be balance every page’s composition and frame as well.

As for style:

At first,I tried to paint a individual figure.I did that by watercolor and computer(Ai,Ps)and collage. But I still want to modify the looking of this girl.,maybe her hair….and the color.MoreoverI think I am not audacious enough,I need to improve my efficiency to do more experiments on style and texture!!!!

Make a schedule:

Last Tuesday,I received an email from Julie, she helped me summarize all suggestions and informations from critique. Then in the noon,I meet my mentor Mike Laughead in the studio. His way to make a clear schedule is really specific and helpful!!

So I divided the story into 6 parts:

1-The girl wandered on the street and found a bubble gum machine ;

2-She dreamed herself into the star bouncing ball and start the first part of adventure.

3-The second part of adventure.

4-The third one.

5-The fourth part of adventure.

6-She wake up and back to reality.

To do

1—–Plan out pages-decide on size

2—–Make Schedule/Calendar

3—–Thumbnail drawings

And then Professor Mike Laughead provided a example to me.He divided my second part of story into 6 smaller parts and listed them one by one. Then he taught me how to distribute and format them on every page- some images reveal poetic meanings, some assembled images reveal plot of story.I think this idea is really great!

I plan to spend 2-3weeks painting 1st part of story, and at the same time I will modify the narrative on 2nd part-5th part.Because I never try to paint a long story by the same style ,so I will spend longer time to find the suitable ways to express it.This is a way I can improve my efficiency later.

Sketch and drafts of first part of story:

Color:

On the first part,I plan to use less color to present the reality part,as well as  contrast it with parts of adventures in dream.

Then I tried to paint the one pictures of my sketches and do experiments on skin textures.(Just paint them freely)

The materials I used are ball-pens,maker pens mixed with water, pencils, and water color. And I also used it as below:)))—- The patterns of chase envelopes!

There are some processes.

Then I tried many times to combine my hand drawing and textures by computer like this.

I will make more skin texture experiments, because I found it is very interesting and meaningful!

Chase envelopes

Today,I got two Chase Bank envelopes from Mingyu:P

There are two different patterns inside.I don’t know whether there is a practical value, but they are very nice~I played them for a while.I am going to make a handmade book with them and add other materials that I collect every day:)

Work hard!

Progress-1

1112

I plan to paint an illustration story book in the first semester, the title is <Little Star>.It’s about a dream and a girl’s delicate inner world. She experienced a fantasy adventure in a star bounching ball.

The reason I want to paint it because it’s my own experience and imagination. One day,I wandered in the street and played a bubblegum machine in front of the gate of a primary school, then I put into a coin and got a star bouncing ball.I like this ball very much, when I took it closely to my eyes and observed it carefully,I was totally fascinated by its inside.I started thinking about what will happens if I can fly into it?Maybe I can meet everything I want! I realized that this would be a particularly great story for myself. So I painted some sketches and pictures by color pencil to catch my instant feeling.

What about the adventure when the girl flies into this bounching ball?I decided choose some dreams I have written down my notebook.(I like recording my dream when I wake up if I still remember it:P)She will go through four different adventures in another world, maybe some adventures are disappointed, maybe some fantastic to her.In the end, this colorful fantasy will disappeared, she has to wake up from her dream, but this star bouncing ball will accompany with her.

Goal:

1. I want to express the accurately emotion of story by color, composition and          different elements.

2. Improve my implementation capacity to finish a complete story.

3. try to do a lot of experiments on the different skin textures.(Hand drawing +Computer…)

4. Better arrangement on color and composition.

Thinking:

Symbolic meaning

How to arrange picture to express poetic?
